Published Oct 12, 2026

After 86 league games, the league's Infraction Index is 114.5 season to date, 14.5 above the 2025/2026 league average of 100. It was 116.8 seven days earlier, and the first 50 games league-wide came in at 118.0. Two weeks into a hockey season, that is noise, not a trend. The league has yet to spend a single day of it below 100.

Vegas (VGK) @ Seattle (SEA) set the bar on Tuesday, and nobody has cleared it since. The game drew 17 penalties and 65 penalty minutes for a game Index of 296.2, the highest of the season. Minnesota (MIN) @ Florida (FLA) followed on Saturday with a game Index of 258.8, so the week ending Oct 11 now owns the season's two busiest games.

Season to date, Florida (FLA) leads the league with an Index of 171.1, ahead of Ottawa (OTT) at 152.2. Both teams have been called for 29 penalties; Florida simply makes them last longer. The Atlantic has the highest division Index so far at 128.3, and the East's Index is 120.0 to the West's 108.9. Florida, in particular, has started treating the penalty box like a second bench.
